Xplanetx.com back from downtime...

Here's a huge thanks to all of you guys for their patience to get this website back up and running. It was a whirlwind of a mess with our host and it looks like we lost about a year's worth of messageboard data, which is sad, but not ALL is lost. That's all I care about. There are some pretty cool OLD threads that I didn't want to go to waste.

I will be rebuilding the database for the messageboard for it to be operational again.

Soon, very soon, we'll be talking about Planet X as a family again! Stay tuned!

Slash and Billy Idol guest on Derek Sherinian’s new CD, Blood of the Snake!

World-renowned keyboardist Derek Sherinian returns with his 5th solo effort, titled Blood of the Snake due out on August 1st from Inside Out Music. Heralded for his unique blend of progressive rock, jazz/rock fusion and metal, Sherinian continues to push the envelope with Blood of the Snake. Once again, Sherinian has a surrounded himself with an all-star lineup, including Billy Idol, Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater’s John Petrucci and long-time collaborators Zakk Wylde, Simon Phillips, Tony Franklin, and Brian Tichy.

The lead single from Blood of the Snake is the cover of Mungo Jerry’s “In the Summertime,” which features Idol on vocals and Slash on guitar. The song, a loose, easy-go-lucky summer jam has been a longtime favorite of Sherinian’s and benefits from both Idol’s smooth delivery and Slash’s sweet guitar licks.

"In The Summertime" was my favorite song when I was 3,” begins Sherinian. “Billy started singing it one day at soundcheck, and we started jamming on it. We agreed it would be a great song to cover one day. Slash was the perfect guitarist for this track."

Wylde also gives his vocal talents a go, appearing on the brooding “Man With No Name,” which resembles classic-era Ozzy Osbourne.

“Zakk sounds like vintage Ozzy on this track,” acknowledges Sherinian.  “He sings and plays great on this song."

Sherinian, who can now been seen on tour with Malmsteen, has made a name for himself with stints in such high-profile acts such as KISS, Alice Cooper, and Dream Theater. His last release was 2004’s Mythology, which garnered worldwide acclaim from both fans and press alike, utilizing the talents of Wylde, Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), Steve Lukather (TOTO) and Allan Holdsworth.

Derek working on 5th solo album!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Famed Keyboardist DEREK SHERINIAN In Studio With:

ZAKK WYLDE, JOHN PETRUCCI, STEVE LUKATHER, SIMON PHILLIPS, TONY FRANKLIN, and BRIAN TICHY

SHERINIAN Produces His 5th Solo Masterpiece

HOLLYWOOD (January 10, 2006) – Famed keyboardist, Derek Sherinian, is in the studio producing yet another masterpiece. The new untitled work is currently underway in Sherinian’s own Beachwood Manor Studios in Burbank, CA. This new album is slated to be released June 2006 worldwide on InsideOut Music in the US & Europe, and Marquee /Avalon in Japan.

After a nine month World Tour with Billy Idol, Sherinian went immediately into the studio. With the immense reception to last year’s album Mythology, he decided to bring back several of the available players that made it happen. "This is the 4th solo record of mine that Zakk has played on, and he goes beyond the call of duty for me every time,” explains Sherinian. Zakk is the real deal and I am very fortunate to be able to work with him."

The 2006 cast o’ characters is comprised of  Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society/Ozzy), John Petrucci (ex-Dream Theater band-mate), Steve Lukather (Toto), Simon Phillips (Toto), Tony Franklin (The Firm/Blue Murder), and Brian Tichy (Billy Idol, Ozzy, Slashes Snakepit) and other surprise special guests. This line-up proves that that you can only expect the best.

Last years album, Sherinian’s fourth solo album, is a true brilliant work of art. Playing with a cast of virtuoso’s, Mythology had combined many styles - rock, prog and metal with splashes of jazz. As the composer, Sherinian left a lot of room for the guest artists to feel natural in playing. So much so that Zakk Wylde was inspired by the flow of the music that he wrote lyrics for the track The River Run and also performed the vocals.

Sherinian gained worldwide recognition as a member of Dream Theater from 1994-1999. He has also toured and recorded with Alice Cooper, KISS, and BILLY IDOL among many others. He has released seven full-length recordings in the last five years – four solo albums, and three with Planet X, the studio is always busy. That’s just the way Sherinian likes it. “All I’m trying to do is create music that moves me first,” he says. “I hope other people dig it too.”  www.dereksherinian.com

Tony's Departure / Important message from Derek

Hello PX Fans,

It has been awhile since there has been an update, please accept our apologies.

Virgil and I are sad to report that Tony MacAlpine has left Planet X. We have enjoyed working with Tony, and wish him the best of luck on the Vai tour, and his solo career.

We are working with some new players, we will announce the final new line-up sometime in April. Rest assured - whoever Virgil and I choose will be a great addition to the band.

We look forward to playing NEARFest July 11.

Regards,
Derek
