Derek
In your ytsejam.com interview, you stated that Planet X would never become a vocal band. In the past few years, many accomplished instrumentalists (Steve Vai and Tony MacAlpine to name a few) have dabbled with vocals in their music. I was wondering if you would ever consider singing on one of your new solo projects?

I agree!!!
Hi
what does "shmocals" mean?
i assume that means you dont like vocals...
in that case i agree and i hope PlanetX will NEVER have vocals...
because vocals destroy the music coming from the instruments... and kicks them into the background
and they make the music less complex...
there's always this §%&$%&$§$ lyrics - chorus - lyrics <-- schema ...i hate it...

I dunno, I reckon Lenoard Cohen's vocal stylings would suit perfectly :D

I agree, in Planet X, vocals would be pretty strange... they wouldn't fit well at all...
That being said, I find nothing wrong with vocals: the voice is just another instrument. However, there aren't too many good examples of quality vocal work nowadays.
Just to prove that vocals can be a powerful instrument, listen to some choir music, whether it be Georgian choral music (as in Georgia, the eastern European region, not the southern state in the US), some Bach chorales, and a certain ass-kicking Brahms choir piece called "Geistliches Lied" (which translates as "holy song"). I used to be pretty anti-vocal when I was at the height of my instrumental rock phase, but after I studied these, among other works, in university (as well as being forced to do vocal training so I wouldn't fail my sight-singing tests!), I began to appreciate vocals.
Bah, but whatever, this is a Planet X website:

PX with vocals would be weird as hell, but if it was ever gonna have one it would have to be someone that does not have the traditional prog voice. I'm thinking Devin Townsend or Chuck Billy :D
Hi Pryde7
yes you're absolutly right...
classical vocals are really god.. but in rock bands i dont like them...
actually they arent as good as in classic
i'm from germany so i know lotta german classics...
but my favorites are russian ones... especially dmitri shostakovij (i hate translating russian names) his 13. symphony is great , most of it are vocals... but i've never heard better music
(it's obvuis that the 13.th is my favorite smile.gif )
the 3.sentence is the best w magazinje (in the store)
i know a russian cellist he's also the best musician i've ever seen his names is pergamentschikov twice... he even won the tschaikowski competition... now he's a mentor in berlin and qiete "old" for him shostakoiij wrote the the Cello Concerto No. 1 in Eb major - Op. 107
a friend is going to study with him as mentor...
but back to rock smile.gif there are some quiete good singers ... dream theatre singer (dont know his name or the singer of manowar) but their singing lacks of emotions and the extreme technique classic has , and overall i think very good singing creates an extreme emotional atmosphere, so that it wouldnt fit to planet X at all , i like planetX because it often sound very futurelike... to me ...ijustlove that...
bye smile.gif
