What do people think of Pinnella's playing? I like some of the stuff he does, he always adds spooky sounding arpeggios to Romeo's heavy chug-riffs.
I don't think I like any of his soloing, really, apart from in Sea and Lies.
I really like Symphony X's more recent stuff, from Divine Wings of Tragedy onwards. Can't wait to get the new Symphony X album when it comes out. Romeo is one of my favourite players, and I think one of the greatest players in prog metal/rock today!

Personally i believe that Divine Wings Of Tragedy and the Live one are the best cd's they have released so far. I have heard that the new album will be in the vein of "Divine ... " and this sounds great.

I only have V, but I really enjoy all aspects of it, yet I can do without the cheesy lyrics sometimes. smile.gif

Yeah, I know what you mean: In The Dragon's Den.....the title of the song says it all hehe.
Sym X have some vids of Fallen and Communion and the Oracle being played live on their site www.symphonyx.com (http://www.symphonyx.com) V
ery impressive stuff. Romeo looks so relaxed when playing.

I have V as well.It's a great album.I learned the entire thing on the Drums! It's a great warm-up and at 15 was a great thing to help develop my leg stamina! Thanks Sym X! smile.gif

SX is my fav band. They kick so much ass it's not funny. I love the way Pinnella and Romeo work off one another. If only Rudess and Petrucci did it more. Actually if only Petrucci was Romeo... DT would be a better band for it. :D
I personally would take SX over DT anyday. Especially with Allen at the helm. But that's beside the point. I think Pinnella is awesome.
Allen = Good
LaBrie = Cheese

I dunno, but I found that JR and JP worked quite well together on the last two DT albums. I know you weren't too happy with 6DoIT and the LTE albums make you sick with your percieved notion of the expanding ego of the players (if LTE is merely about playing to satisfy ego, then what is Planet X! :eek: ... ok so LTE songs aren't as *together* as PX songs... whatever, same difference), but I personally thought JP and JR contributed alot of good, connecting guitar and keyboard parts.
Meh, its all ice cream anyways. I agree though, SyX is a kick ass band that has written some really really great stuff.

And if James Labrie is cheese, he's damn good cheese LOL. I know alot of people can't get into his style, but I like it alot. Damn, though, that SyX singer can really *sing*. Great voice.

I really like the John Petrucci-Jordan Rudess partnership. Personally, I think DT bring out the best in Rudess. I think he really fits the niche that Dream Theater are in at the moment.
Russell Allen is one of the best things to happen to Symphony X. The other guy......I just couldn't stand listening to him. I do prefer Allen to LaBrie, but I still think LaBrie has a more "technically precise" approach. But I really dig Allen's voice.
And I think Romeo is not the right sort of player for DT's stuff, he's a little too neo-classically focused. And a little artificial-harmonic crazy!
I used to think between those two bands and their various members' side projects, they were playing the sickest progressive music. Then I heard Planet X.
Complexity is a motherfucker.

Have you listened to Cyril Achard's cd? Tony MacAlpine plays in it you know. It came out in November 2001 through Lion Music (www.lionmusic.com). If you want to listen to an amazing mix of progressive rock music with fusion, try to find this album. It isn't instrumental.
Symphony X and DT are both amazing bands
There. Enough.
