Yngwie Malmsteen announced officialy his band's line up as it will be featured on "Attack" :
Yngwie Malmsteen - Guitars, Bass; Doogie White - Vocals; Derek Sherinian - Keyboards; Patrik Johansson - Drums

I think that Derek has already finished recording his parts.

Yeah, he made the announcment earlier this week. I was kinda surprized when he announced Doogie as the vocalist because he pretty much kept the last WTEAW touring lineup but did not say who the singer would be. I just assumed Doogie was good for the tour but didnt fit what he wanted on the record.

Cant wait to hear it though.

There were rumors that Doogie White would be the singer and it seems that they were true. Hey, did you listen to the Cornerstone "Human Stain" cd? It was released in Europe sometime in March (2002 of course), it features Doogie White on the vocals and believe me, it sounds amazing. I bet that Yngwie's new album will sound very interesting IF the production will be at least an average one (i can't listen to WTAW because of its awful sound).

I'm a fan of good production, remember back in the 80's when albums were like really over-produced? I actually like that sound, everything's perfect and spot on.

If your into good production you should check out David T. Chastain, he produces his own solo albums and band projects and it's just great. It sounds very old school but modern at the same time. Check out his Zanister albums to see what I mean.

I am a big fan of David Chastain's music and i own all his cd's (even the two Zanister albums). Right now he is recording his new album or at least this is what i have heard you know.

I'm really psyched about this new Yngwie album!! I'm a huge Yngwie fan, and usually he recruits people I haven't heard of for his album, but this time it's top quality all the way!! Doogie is a very good singer, and I've been a fan of Derek's since he played with Dream Theater. I can't wait to see what he brings to the Malmsteen table!!! This has the potential to be Yngwie's best yet....

As much as I like Derek and am confident that he alone could bring great things from Yngwie, I just don't see him getting any creative input. Yngwie puts together great lineups all the time, but their individual characters are often put aside in favor of sounding like most every other line-up he's had. This is especially true with the drummers.

I know this is a little off topic, but I just thought I'd share a link to an amusing and rather unique interview with Malmsteen. No one does arrogance like Malmsteen, as this interview shows. hehe

I can't say that expect great things from Yngwie himself but i truly believe in Doogie White (who is an amazing singer) and Derek. For sure Yngwie won't give them the space to express themselves, this is something we all know. I only hope that there will at least something like a jam or a battle between guitar and keyboards - just to make things more interesting. I support the idea that Derek will bring a fresh air to the band although i truly respect a lot Mats Olausson, who is a great musician, and his work. Derek isn't so much into neoclassical this is why i can't wait to listen to the final result. A combination of Malmsteen's neoclassical style with Derek's rock/fusion/pop tunes and Doogie's hard rock voice sounds really impressive.

I just finished my tracks on Yngwie's CD.

he was very specific in what he wanted, which unfortunately didnt include any keyboard solos.
But...after i finished playing on his CD, he played on 2 songs on my next solo Cd.....one song with Yngwie and Al Di Meola on the same, and one with Yngwie and Zakk Wylde.

butI am not suppose to talk about my solo CD until after MoonBabies, so forget that i said anything!

Derek, that rules!! Did you give the guys a free reign on the songs? Or did you have ideas in mind?

I wrote the material with Al and Yngwie in mind, when they recorded their parts, it was natural for them.

I wanted yngwie to double the sick unison lines, but he said," let me just burn dude!" so Al did all the sick unison parts.

Yngwie burned his track in 1 take, he really is sick in how goood he is. You will hear what i mean.

Can't wait to hear it, man, especially knowing it's a 1 take deal! I got into Yngwie pretty late, but his talent is immense!

This really sounds like it will be unbelievably good. I can't wait....any timescale as to when it might be released?

Yngwie hires the best to make them work under their real capability, I can't see the point at all...anyway, you know my opinion, right? ;)

Hey Derek. Didn't know of you until last year some time. My loss. You kick ass. Do you think there's any chance at all that hatchets can be buried and maybe you (or anyone) could maybe get Yngwie and Tony to play together. The static between those two is one of the great disappointments of my musical life.

Well, after working with Gene Simmons, it's safe to say thay our Derek must certainly know how to deal with musicians of, how shall I put it, high self-appreciation.

I was hoping Derek would give Yngwie something that would stump him. I don't mean that in a mean way. It's just that Yngwie is in such a comfort zone playing his own riffs and licks that I'd like to see him challenged to bring something new out of him.

I dare say they wouldn't have done their parts together. Yngwie probably did his at home at Ten Oaks in Miami.

I agree... I mean, man, just imagine those two in the same room. Hell, I can just see Zakk tossing down his beer bottle, lunging at our good ol friend YJM and thrashing him (don't ask, its just some mental picture that popped up) while screaming single syllable words rhyming with "truck". Well, I seem to imagine Zakk doing that to pretty much everyone LOL (he's just that kinda guy tongue.gif ).
