I don't know if this has been asked before, but the worst I can do is make myself look like an idiot over the internet. And it's just the internet *knock on wood* so...yeah.
I just wanted to ask Derek (and all the members) where they get their inspiration to write their music. I've been running out of inspiration lately...every riff I write feels used up, like I've heard it a thousand times. What really encourages you guys to write with such a weird, spaced-out sound?
I get influenced by prog, jazz fusion, power metal, (some) black metal, and classical music. The bands who most influenced me in those genres are Opeth (sorry Planet X, lol, but I've known about them for longer), Planet X/Al Di Meola, Wintersun, Nocte Obducta, and Nicolo Paganini.
I've tried finding inspiration in science, specifically theoretical and quantum physics. I bought a few books, because I'm interested in the subject (I suggest Lisa Randall's book and Brian Greene's if you guys are too, it makes sense that you might have already, lol.) The more I read, though, the more I concentrate on science and understand what the hell is the author talking about, and I feel less inspired to write music, and just more confused.
Thanks, that's all. I hope I can get a reply from Derek, if not, other musicians, what inspires you guys (besides Planet X) ?
Peace.
