Hey Derek or anyone out there who has experience with the Nord lead Synths. I don't need a workstation and am looking for a new keyboard to replace the DX7 I got at a pawn shop for $200 :D The internal needs replacing and I need to fix an a key so I was thinking it's about time to buy a good new board.
Now sure Derek uses the Lead 3 but he also uses triton extremes and a whole bunch of other boards right? My question is: is it possible to use just a nord lead 2 and (probably) an external effects rack? I'm in a prog rock/metal band (we play a lot of stuff which is in the same genre as Planet X, Dereks solo works, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, etc)
Probably down the line I would have to get an electro or something for piano/organ sounds but that can wait awhile.

(PS sorry if this was poster in the wrong thread)

I've played the Nord Leads and I personaly don't like them...doesn't mean they aren't good but that's my personal taste. Derek used an original Triton for the majority of sounds on the Universe album. So you would be better off grabbing a Triton Studio or Extreme if you want similar sounds. You can download his signature sound 'Monster Lead' from one of the Korg sites!
